Joan Campbell Ceramics

A complex ceramic relief is restored and given a new home.

This project completed in 2021 consisted of two large ceramic murals by the late Joan Campbell MBE (1925–1997) installed into the new Fremantle Library courtyards at Walyalup Civic Centre.

Titled Inland and Coastal Plain, the raku fired clay tile murals were inspired by a flight over the Bungle Bungle Range in the Kimberley.

The perspective shows the journey from the desert landscape to the green of the coastal plain.

Originally commissioned and installed in the Lotteries building in 1991 the works where removed and gifted to the City of Fremantle.

AS Perth over a period of 8 months applied their expertise to repair and restore the 30 year old work before installing it into the new building.
